10 years of Gay Marriage
LGBTQ+ rights are currently under more scrutiny and arguably more threat than perhaps they have been in over a decade, particularly when it comes to our trans siblings.
This week marks 10 years since the legalisation of gay marriage in England and Wales under the Marriage (Same-Sex Couples) Act and it’s estimated that 165,000 queer people have tied the knot under this legislation 10 years ago.
Anyway it reminds me of when Arnold Schwarzenegger said: “I think that gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman.”
Or when Frank Reynolds on Always Sunny said: “Who gives a shit if gays want to me miserable like everyone else and get married. Let em do it. No skin of my ass.
Anyway congrats to all the queer couples who’ve made the most of this landmark piece of legislation and while we reflect on this milestone, its an important reminder that rights continue to be under threat. Don’t get complacenet. Be woke. Be wide awake.
